1.3 Structure of the Regional Plan
The Regional Plan contains eight chapters, maps and diagrams, photographs, and references to various supplementary materials and information.
This first chapter describes the role, tasks, and development of the Regional Plan.
The second chapter discusses the challenges the Regional Plan addresses and then outlines a future vision for East Iceland, describing an overall picture of the region in terms of environment, employment, society, and culture. The vision is further elaborated with main objectives for these four areas under the slogans:
- East Iceland – good habitats
- East Iceland – a region of opportunities
- East Iceland – a strong community
- East Iceland – like an adventure
Chapters three to six present the strategy for each area in the form of objectives for individual tasks and ways to achieve them, followed by explanations of the strategy.
The seventh chapter outlines the implementation of the Regional Plan.
The eighth chapter summarizes the environmental assessment of the Regional Plan, with the environmental assessment report as an appendix.7
At the end of the document is a list of reviewers/stakeholders.
The maps and diagrams in the document show either the current status or describe future development emphases, as explained in the captions under each image. Photos are used to best highlight the unique characteristics of East Iceland.
The regional plan includes a web viewer with various data used during its creation and which will be used in the implementation of the policy.8
